WRONGFUL DEATH

ADAM BARRINGTON'S PRACTICE AREAS

Attorney Adam Barrington has specific experience handling wrongful death cases and has represented the Estates of those whose lives were cut short as a result of the negligence of another.

North Carolina’s wrongful death statute, North Carolina General Statute 28A-18-2, gives the Estate of someone who has died as the result of the wrongful act of another a cause of action for the expenses for care, treatment, and hospitalization incident to the injury leading up to the death; pain and suffering for the decedent; funeral expenses for the decedent; net income of the decedent; compensation for the services, protection, care and assistance of the decedent to the decedent’s heirs; and compensation for the society, companionship, comfort, guidance, kindly offices and advice of the decedent to the decedent’s heirs. Punitive damages are sometimes available as well.

If you’ve lost a loved one due to the negligence of someone else, Attorney Adam Barrington is ready to fight for you.

ESTATE PLANNING

Dying without a proper estate plan usually adds unnecessary worry, fear and uncertainty to the grief your family will experience upon your death.  What's even worse is that North Carolina's Intestate Succession Act can cause some unforeseen and unfortunate consequences when it directs the disposition of your property without an estate plan in place.  While you can do virtually anything you want with your assets upon your death, you have to take action now to ensure your wishes are carried out.

Attorney Barrington has drafted thousands of estate plans, ranging from simple wills to complex revocable living trusts.  He takes the time he needs to match your needs and desires to the proper estate solution.

ESTATE ADMINISTRATION

Oftentimes, the grief of the passing loved one is only compounded by the act of settling that loved one's estate.  The word "probate" is scary to a lot of people.  Hopefully, they had an estate plan in place which should make the administration of their estate smoother.  However, there can be bumps in the road.  Attorney Barrington has extensive experience with probate or administering estates in many North Carolina counties.  He is glad to shepherd you through this often daunting task.
